How the salary calculator works
Enter your hourly rate (or annual salary) and your typical hours per week. The calculator instantly converts your pay into every common format — hourly, weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, monthly, and annual — plus an estimated take-home pay after taxes.
The standard formula
Annual salary = hourly rate × hours per week × 52 weeks. For example, $25/hour at 40 hours/week = $25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000/year, or about $4,333/month.
Pay schedule differences
- Weekly: 52 paychecks/year
- Bi-weekly: 26 paychecks/year (two "extra" checks in some months)
- Semi-monthly: 24 paychecks/year (typically 1st and 15th)
- Monthly: 12 paychecks/year
Note: bi-weekly and semi-monthly are not the same. Bi-weekly employees receive 26 paychecks, while semi-monthly employees receive 24. Over a year, bi-weekly pays slightly more per paycheck but the same annual total.
U.S. salary benchmarks (2026)
- Median household income: ~$80,000/year
- Median individual income: ~$58,000/year
- Federal minimum wage: $7.25/hour (since 2009)
- "Living wage" (varies by city): ~$16–$25/hour
Don't forget about taxes
The estimated take-home figure assumes ~22% combined federal/state taxes. Your actual rate depends on filing status, deductions, state (no income tax in TX, FL, WA, etc.), and retirement contributions. For precise numbers, use the IRS Tax Estimator or consult a tax professional.
